Greetings
We invite all patriotic citizens to the
National Memorial of the Korean Provisional Government.
The Constitution of the Republic of Korea clearly stipulates that the citizens of S. Korea “uphold the cause of the Provisional ROK Government conceived from the March First Independence Movement.” Our institution, the National Memorial of the KPG, is dedicated to the celebration and promotion of the historical significance and heritage of the constitution as follows:
Firstly, our institution guides visitors to an landmark phase of the Korean history in which the country was transformed from the Korean regime where the national sovereignty was dictated by the emperor to the republic where the sovereignty is in the hands of the people. Visitors would also be guided to the important aspects of modernization of the country represented by the establishment of the first democratic republic in Korean history, recent stipulation of gender equality, and the election of female lawmakers.
Secondly, for its visitors, our institution sheds light on the Republic of Korea today has its origin in the Provisional Government established over a hundred years ago, inheriting not only its name and national polity but also the era name, constitution, national flag (Taegeukgi) and other national symbols. It also clearly shows to its visitors that the present Korean government and the National Assembly have emerged from their predecessors in the Provisional Government the Provisional National Council.
Thirdly, our institution celebrates the history and heritage of the Korean Provisional Government that was able to achieve national unity despite the differences in the ideologies and methods adopted for the restoration of independence among Korean independence fighters. We believe that we can find wisdom and paths for the national reunification from the history and heritage of the Provisional Government that achieved unity by overcoming factional conflicts and ideological splits. We at the National Memorial of the KPG also use our resources for the discovery of unsung patriotic fighters, bringing them to the forefront of Korean independence movement history.
Our main tasks include collecting historical materials connected with the Korean Provisional Government from around the world, making them into systematic data, and helping researchers in S. Korea and overseas productively apply them for academic purposes and benefit. For the visitors to our institution, we also hold the permanent and special exhibitions geared to various themes related to the history and heritage of the Korean Provisional Government, and operate a variety of creative experiential learning programs for the youth in the early 20th century, so they can appreciate and have pride in Korean history and heritage.
We hope that your visit to our institution, which forms the Narasarang Belt (or Patriotism Belt) along with Dongnipgwan Hall and Seodaemun Prison History Hall, will be a worthwhile opportunity to deepen and broaden your understanding of the most turbulent and heroic part of Korean modern history.
